Rapid isolation of salmonellae from faeces.
Factors and techniques leading to the more rapid isolation of salmonellae from faeces that are negative by direct plating were examined. The aim was to increase the number of specimens on which positive reports might be given within 24 hours of receipt. Salmonellae were isolated from 279 of the specimens studied. Brilliant green MacConkey agar was found to be the most satisfactory solid selecti...
متن کاملEfficacy of different selective media for the isolation of salmonellae from faeces.
Comparative results obtained in isolating salmonellae from faeces by the use of tetrathionate broth, MS, and MM enrichment medium are given. The best results were obtained by tetrathionate broth prepared from infusion broth. The MS as well as the MM medium increased the total number of positive results.
متن کاملA Recommended Method for Detecting Salmonellae in Composted Biosolids
It has been found in Australia and in the United States that composting does not always result in the complete removal of salmonellae from biosolids. It is therefore likely that monitoring of composted biosolids for salmonellae will be required in Australia to ensure the safety ofbiosolids products. At present rapid methods of detection such as PCR and ELISA are not sufficiently developed to mo...
متن کاملA comparative trial of Rappaport enrichment medium for the isolation of Salmonellae from faeces.
Seven-thousand-and-thirty-six specimens of faeces were examined for Salmonellae using three enrichment culture media in parallel.Rappaport's magnesium chloride malachite green broth medium proved superior to selenite F and tetrathionate broths in the recovery of a wide variety of Salmonella serotypes. However, it was inferior to selenite broth in the recovery of Salmonella typhi.A higher recove...
متن کاملNovobiocin-tetrathionate broth: a medium of improved selectivity for the isolation of Salmonellae from faeces.
The selective cultivation of bacteria by incorporating chemicals in the media depends on supplying a substance which either stimulates the growth of the species to be isolated or inhibits unwanted species. Tetrathionate is a good selector of Salmonellae in faeces culture, and is believed to act in both ways. Tetrathionate reducers, such as Salmonellae, flourish in broth containing it, whereas a...
